THE MOST ADVANCED GREEN TAXI IN THE WORLD, NOW AVAILABLE FROM £177 PER WEEK

Typical driver to save £100 per week on fuel, dramatically lowering running costs to enable transition to world class electric taxi

LEVC – the London EV Company – formerly London Taxi Company, confirms costs and prices for all new TX with eCity technology:

  • Finance package, at £177 [1] weekly equivalent price, inclusive of the battery over 5 years.
  • Typical fuel saving for average driver of a £100 [2] per week over current model.
  • Compelling UK launch offer on warranty and servicing with roadside assistance programme all inclusive
  • Five years full unlimited mileage battery warranty – industry leading for commercial EVs; Three years/90k miles free servicing; Three years/120k miles full vehicle warranty to include roadside assistance programme.

Tuesday 1 August 2017, London, England: On the 1st August LEVC (London EV Company) opens its order book for the all-new TX electric taxi with eCity technology.

Ahead of taking deposits for the first time and opening the order book, LEVC confirms final pricing and indicative running costs for the all-new TX model. The launch finance package – through which more than 90% of drivers are expected to buy the new TX – is confirmed at £177 per week, including the battery over five years. The outgoing TX4 model was priced at £167 per week over four years.

LEVC’s Commercial Director, Richard Gordon, said: “I am delighted to announce such a competitive package for the new electric TX. Market leading in every way, this is a truly outstanding new vehicle that will revolutionise the taxi trade in London from an emissions perspective, for passenger comfort, experience and enjoyment, and importantly for the drivers.”

Welcoming the opening of order book, Steve McNamara of the Licensed Taxi Drivers Association commented:

“The taxi trade welcomes the arrival of this ultra clean 21st century vehicle that can only help us to win business back from private hire. We recognise the serious issues around air quality in London and cities around the UK, and look forward to offering emission free personal transport to Londoners and visitors alike.”

The all new electric TX is based on eCity technology comprising a battery electric power train with range extender providing over 400 miles range between charges including well in excess of 70 miles with zero emissions.

The technology is purposefully designed for commercial operators that face demanding and unpredictable duty cycles which require complete range assurance, but also significant zero emissions capability for city centre operations.

As well as offering complete range assurance and flexibility, the TX with its eCity technology will also significantly reduce costs for taxi drivers. Currently, a taxi driver using the outgoing TX4 Euro 6 model with its 2.7-litre diesel engine, and driving an average of 115 miles per day, will spend around £150 per week on fuel. A taxi driver operating the same cycle in a new TX is estimated to save £100 per week on fuel.

Commenting on the fuel savings drivers will benefit from, LEVC’s Commercial Director, Richard Gordon, commented:

“Taking in to consideration the fuel costs of the TX, over the course of a week, it represents a really impressive savings of £100. We look forward to welcoming customers old and new in to our showroom as of this week with our order book now open.”

Servicing of the TX will be easier and more reassured than ever, with LEVC’s UK launch offering of three years free servicing or 90,000 miles on the all new electric TX, as well as a full five-year unlimited mileage battery warranty and a full three year, 120,000 miles vehicle warranty. LEVC’s battery warranty is industry leading for commercial vehicles.

From the 1st August drivers that have registered their interest in the all new TX will be invited to a product preview where they will be taken through financing options, TX specifications, option packs, and given a personalised purchase proposition to suit their work patterns and individual circumstances. Drivers that have not yet registered their interest can do so at www.theelectrictaxi.co.uk.

Stephen Jones, Treasurer at United Cabbies Group, has today previewed the TX in our London, Brewery Road showroom and had this to say:

London Taxi Company’s (LTC) relaunch as LEVC marks the next stage in the company’s transformation. Underpinned by an investment totalling £325million, LEVC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Geely, has the single-minded ambition to be the urban commercial vehicle provider of choice for cities around the world – with the production of the TX to be closely followed by a new commercial vehicle, also powered by eCity technology and offered internationally.

The £177 weekly equivalent price is not quite accurate considering there is a final payment of £18880 on top of this which is only mentioned in the small print.

So really it is a bit misleading to quote this figure of £177 per week in all the press releases when actually the real figure including the £18880 is £250 per week.

Thanks for your comment Jeff. The weekly payment of £177 is a true reflection of what a taxi driver could pay for a new TX. As with any PCP deal, the final payment is optional, there are several options available at the end of the agreed term. For more information on PCP please visit: http://bit.ly/2f8lfkj. The beauty of a PCP deal is that it can be tailored to the individual circumstances and budget of a taxi driver, for e.g. you could choose to put down a slightly bigger deposit and reduce the weekly payments even further. If you’d like our team to talk you thought a personalised purchase proposition for TX, please register on this site and book a TX preview appointment while availability lasts.

I notice a 45 minute daily top up charge
Where am I going to do that
As I drive around London I can’t see any vacant charging points and I don’t really have 45 mins to spare anyway
So what happens if I don’t top up the charge
How much is 5 year warranty?
What happens to £9000 grant or is that already taken off price so it’s really £64000
Where do I charge it overnight if I live in a tower block?

Hi John, thanks for your questions.

New charge points are being added on a daily basis so the landscape of UK charging point infrastructure is continually evolving. Latest Zap-Map stats – 8 AUGUST 2017 show there are approximately 4,260 charging locations. TfL have also promised to install 300 dedicated fast charge points for taxis to further support the transition to zero-emission taxis.
There are a great many Apps available which allow drivers to quickly find and filter charge points by location, availability and speed, and will even provide directions – so you can find a place to charge on your smartphone.

The electric taxi will be capable of well in excess of 70 miles of pure electric capability, but will also take support from the petrol range-extender which is capable of 400 miles of driving between charges. This means you don’t have to stop and top up up the charge during the day.

The 5 year warranty is fully inclusive of the £177 per week finance deal – the battery comes with a 5 year (unlimited mileage) warranty and the vehicle a 3 year (120,000 miles) warranty. The £7,500 grant from TFL is part of the Plug-in taxi scheme is assumed in the OTR price. Local councils and regulators are working with us to provide on street parking for the progression to zero-emssion capable taxis, as well as TFL’s promise to install 300 dedicated charging units.

Why is the price only to be found in the small print.its almost like you’re embarrassed to say it out loud.

Hi Paul, the top speed (and all other elements of the taxi’s performance) are the same, regardless of whether or not the range-extender is operating. Full technical specification will be published very soon.

I live in a tower block and don’t wish to ever park up at an elusive chargepoint that I’ll probably never been able to get on to anyway. With the fact that I’ll never be plugging into a charge point how much money will I save on petrol per week ? How many miles do I have to drive on petrol to fully charge the battery ?

Reply
LEVC

Hi Jason. The environmental benefits and savings on fuel will be much greater if you maximise the range offered by driving in pure EV mode. The petrol range extender is not used to replenish the battery, and therefore doesn’t encourage inefficient operating behaviour. The taxi uses the range-extender to maintain the battery’s state of charge at the current or minimum level. It also allows you to drive an additional 400 miles once the battery reaches its minimum state of charge or you decide you’d like to maintain your current state of charge. You may find a face-to-face encounter with our team more useful as they can explain in a lot more detail how the different drive modes on TX work, when it’s best to use each, how much you could save on fuel based on your current circumstances etc. If you’d like a private TX preview please register for an invitation on this site.

Can you confirm that if I wanted to buy the cab outright, that for the basic model I would pay a total of £55,599 to drive it out of the showroom?

Reply

Hi Martin, Yes that’s right, the OTR price is £55,599 so you could drive a TX out of the showroom for this amount.

30k miles a year ! Only relevant for a London based cab . What about everyone else in the UK ?

What finance package is available for vehicles which would do more realistic mileages ?

Thanks for your interest Hassan.
We wouldn’t like to speculate what the battery will cost at this stage because as EV adoption and improvements in battery technology continue to grow, the cost of replacement batteries continues to fall, so comparing the price of replacing a battery now against what it would be to change at the end of the TX’s life or even after the warranty is extremely misleading.
We will be sharing more information on the servicing costs through our email updates very soon however the running costs of TX will be significantly less than any of our previous models. Not only fuel but servicing and maintenance too because electric motors have fewer parts and liquids which can go wrong they naturally require less maintenance, and the use of the battery put less requirement and wear on the range-extender. If you’d like to see the TX in person please feel free to register for an invitation to a private preview on this site where we can explain all about the economics of the new taxi in more detail in a no-obligation one hour session.

As the battery forms part of the fuel price, I need to know how much it is likely going to cost to replace the battery when it expires in however many years time.

I appreciate that prices will come down as more are produced, but can you tell me how much it would cost if I were to buy a battery now?

That way I can work out whether or not buying the new taxi is viable in my circumstances. A ball park figure would suffice, just to give me some idea.

I am not going to invest in a new taxi without this information.

Hi Martin, The battery in TX uses state of the art battery-cell technology. As EV battery technology grows, the cost of replacement batteries continues to fall so comparing the price of replacing a battery now against what it would be to change at the end of the TX’s life is extremely misleading. We are offering everyone the opportunity to purchase a new TX on Personal Contract Purchase (PCP). This not only allows customers to set an affordable monthly payment for up to five years, during which time the battery is comprehensively covered by the warranty. At the end of the contract (subject to fair wear and tear and mileage) the customer is able to simply hand the taxi back to us; taking absolutely no risks around the health of the battery or the residual value of the taxi. In addition, the results we’ve achieved both from laboratory testing and a million miles of real-world use mean we’re very confident in the battery’s performance and it is this confidence that has led us to offer a market-leading battery warranty of five years with unlimited mileage.
